It was decided that with increasing volumes of waste water being produced and increasing costs due to high demand upon the local sewage treatment works that an independent treatment facility would be built to manage and treat the effluent of the factory and ultimately discharge to the water course.
It was determined that with proper balancing of the effluent that cost effective treatment could be provided with minimal chemical dosing, utilising a DAF clarifier as primary treatment followed by substantial biological treatment.
The significant automation designed into the plant worked very well at reducing the demand on daily operations allowing the training of existing staff to further reduce costs. Emergency procedures have already inhibited numerous issues thanks to this automation.
